The Green Industry Report is an independent publication about the U.S. landscaping and lawn care industry. We write for three groups of readers: homeowners pricing or hiring a project, owners and operators of landscaping businesses, and crews and job seekers working in or entering the trade.
What we publish
- Costs: project cost guides and comparisons, with the inputs and the arithmetic shown on the page.
- Hiring: how to check, compare and contract with a landscaper.
- Licensing: what each state requires, read from the statute, rule or licensing agency.
- Data: industry size, jobs, wages and prices from federal statistical releases.
- Business and Software: pricing, bidding and the tools operators use to run crews.
- Careers and the job board: pay, training and open landscaping jobs.
- Licensed landscaper directory: businesses listed from public state license records.
How we work
We work from primary sources: federal statistical agencies, state statutes and licensing boards, manufacturer specifications and published price lists. Every number links to where it came from, with the data date. If we can’t find a primary source for a figure, we leave the figure out.
We don’t run job sites, keep an invoice database or send crews into the field, so we never present a cost figure as a quote. Our cost ranges are estimates built from cited inputs, and each page shows the math. The details are in our methodology and editorial standards. AI tools help with research, drafting and checking, under rules set out on our AI use page.
Who writes it
Everything is published under one byline: The Green Industry Report Editorial Team. The team is responsible for every page, including its mistakes. When we get something wrong we fix it and add a dated note, as described in our corrections policy.
How the site is paid for
The site is free to read. It is paid for by labelled sponsored placements, job postings and, in future, labelled Featured placements in the directory. Sponsors and employers don’t review or approve our coverage, and paying us doesn’t change what we write, how we describe a product, or the order of directory listings. The full list, including what is live and what is only planned, is on how we make money.
